Itinerary (1st edition)

DAY 0 - 22 July (Sunday)
  • 08:00 - 19:00 Flights to Bucharest, private transfers, Check-in at InterContinental Hotel in Bucharest and free time according to each flight schedule.
  • 19:00 - 21:00 Opening speech and networking cocktail in InterContinental's lobby (located at 21th floor).
DAY 1 - 23 July (Monday)
  • 07:00 - 08:00 Breakfast at the hotel and Check-out.
  • 08:00 - 11:00 We hit the road to Constanța via A2 highway.
  • 11:00 - 14:00 We visit the historical center of Constanța. This ancient seaport is known for more than two thousands years and has the name of Tomis, a former Greek and later Roman colony. Closer to the present, King Carol I was in love with this place and raised it to the rank of national and later international seaside resort.
  • 14:00 - 16:00 Lunch break in Agigea.
  • 16:00 - 20:00 We drive for about one hour to Histria where we visit the oldest urban structure in the country and the first pontic fortress on the map of the Roman Empire. Histria archaeological site covers 72 hectars and includes ruins of 7m high walls, a Roman forum, the temples of Aphrodite and Zeus, two Roman baths, eight basilicas, workshops and shopping areas. This whole place is one of the most important historical points in Romania and that’s for sure! We continue our journey by seeing the Mosque of Babadag, built in 1610, during the time of Sultan Mehmet III. The courtyard of the mosque also includes parsonage and the tomb of its founder, and finally by admiring the sunset at the famous fortress of Enisala. Dating back to the end of the 13th century and being one of the many fortresses built by the Genoese merchants who domidated the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea in that period, this is their single one in Dobrogea and an icon of the region for sure. Besides the historical value and impeccable presentantion, we also love this place for the fabulous view that opens in the top of the hill.

DAY 2 - 24 July (Tuesday)
  • 07:00 - 08:00 Breakfast at the guest-house.
  • 08:00 - 15:00 We discover Sarichioi with its picturesque streets and houses, two old rite churches and the old fishing port located on the shore of Razim Lake. This colorful village is the heart of Russian-Lipovans community from all over the country and they are very active in keeping treir traditions alive. In this way the bloggers will start to find out more about the multiculturalism and authenticity of this beautiful region. Then we drive to the north where we visit the Celic-Dere Monastery, founded by two Russian-Lipovans monks in 1841. The name is token from the nearby brook. At the beginning it was a mixed monastery, but later the monks moved to the current Saon Monastery (our third stop) and this place thus remaining a nuns’s monastery (about 80 in numbers). We continue by visiting the Paleocristian Church from Niculițel, a basilica built in the 4th century AD, during the reign of Emperor Valerius. A few history-surprises await us here. Finally, we arrive at the ruins of Noviodunum Fortress, a former Roman castrum that was the base of the Classis Flavia Moesica and an important naval military base during the Roman Empire. The Roman emperor Flavius Julius Valens signed here with the Goths an important treaty of peace on a ship in the middle of the Danube River, neither on the territory of the empire nor on the enemy territory because the Visigoth King (Germanic) swore to his father that he will never tread on the Roman land. Isn't that fascinanting?
  • 15:00 - 18:00 Lunch break and tastings at the dobrogean wine cellar from Măcin. Here is the vineyard of Sarica Niculițel, considered to be the oldest viticultural area known on the land of Dobrogea, a supplier of the Royal House of Romania in the present.
  • 18:00 - 22:00 We return to Enisala and dinner at the guest-house.
DAY 3 - 25 July (Wednesday)
  • 07:00 - 08:00 Breakfast at the guest-house and transfer by car to the port of Tulcea.
  • 08:00 - 14:00 We explore the channels and the lakes of the northern Danube Delta and we will be amazed by its beauty absolutely impossible to describe in words. Together with our local guide, we discover some of the delta secrets, this unique place in Europe, Biosphere Reservation and UNESCO Heritage. In this first half of the day we also visit Mila 23 village and the Letea forest.
  • 14:00 - 18:00 Lunch break and short visit by foot in Sulina, the most eastern town in Romania, only accessible by water. Sulina became a town in the 19th century thanks to the establishment of the European Commission of the Danube, which transformed the place from a fishing village into an important town for European river traffic.
  • 18:00 - 22:00 We return to Enisala and dinner at the guest-house.
DAY 4 - 26 July (Thursday)
  • 07:00 - 09:00 Breakfast at the guest-house and transfer by car to the port of Murighiol.
  • 09:00 - 14:00 The first activity of the day is to walk through the Caraorman forest, alogside the Letea Forest being the northern subtropical forest in the world, among which one are secular species of quercus robus. One exemplary has an impressive age of 400 years and a 4-meter circumference. Moreover, the reservation hosts a large group of wild horses and some mammalian species like otter and rabbit. This short walk through the wild nature will be another milestone of our journey! The last part of the exploration in the Danube Delta is in the southern part of it, with focus on Sacalin Island and Zatonu lakes. This place is considered one of the most beautiful areas for ornithological observation in the world. The island is a very important area of passage (rest and food) located on a major migration route (the Black Sea coastline) and also an important nesting area for many species of birds. Among the stars of the day we can mention: juvenile pelicans, dalmatian pelicans, bald eagles, blue fishers, flamingos or lapwings.
  • 14:00 - 18:00 Lunch break in Sfântu Gheorghe (Saint George) village. Then we visit the village, we relax a couple of moments on the wild beach and we admire the place where the Danube River floats into the Black Sea.
  • 18:00 - 22:00 We return to Enisala and dinner at the guest-house.
DAY 5 - 27 July (Friday)
  • 08:00 - 11:00 Breakfast at the guest-house and transfer to the city of Tulcea.
  • 11:00 - 14:00 We attend a feedback discussion with the participation of organizers, bloggers and key stakeholders of Northern Dobrogea.
  • 14:00 - 16:00 Lunch break in Tulcea and networking with the authorities.
  • 16:00 - 20:00 Short walking tour of the city with stops at Aquarium, Art Museum, Museum of History and Archeology and the Monument of Independence.
  • 16:00 - 20:00 We return to Enisala and dinner at the guest-house.
DAY 6 - 28 July (Saturday)
  • 07:00 - 08:00 Breakfast at the guest-house.
  • 08:00 - 13:00 Our first stop of the day is at a traditional peasant household built in the early twentieth century in Enisala village, a really piece of art. Then we arrive in Jurilovca, another place strongly marked by Russian-Lipovans traditions (like Sarichioi) and a village considered one of the most beautiful in Dobrogea. The colorful houses have preserved the specificity of the place and are well maintained by the hard working local people. We continue the day at the headland of Doloșman (Cape Doloșman) and we are amazed by the view over the lakes that opens here. Finally, we discover the archeological site of Orgame, an important fortress built by the Greeks since the 7th century BC. After being conquered by the Romans in the 1st century AD, the fortress was renamed as Argamum. The entire site lies on more than 100 hectares and we see here an access gate, portions of the defense wall (high and thick a few meters), Paleocristian basilicas and several streets. We end with a brunch in a traditional local house.
  • 13:00 - 17:00 Transfer by boat to Gura Portiței and free time for relaxing at the beach in this new pearl of the Romanian seaside.
  • 17:00 - 18:00 Eary dinner at the fishery of Gura Portiței.
  • 18:00 - 21:00 Chilling around.
  • 21:00 - 23:00 Closing party on the beach with campfire and traditional music.
DAY 7 - 29 July (Sunday)
  • 08:00 - 10:00 Breakfast at the guest-house and check-out.
  • 10:00 - 14:00 Transfer to Bucharest and check-in one more night at InterContinental Hotel.
